In October 2015, we conducted a one-hour workshop for the Los Angeles Black Worker Center titled, “What is a Worker Cooperative?,” to introduce the concept of worker owned cooperatives to their members and share stories about successful cooperatives in the construction industry.

Together we held a lively dialogue session where we brainstormed ideas for the future of construction  cooperatives in L.A. and shared in our experiences together.

The Los Angeles Black Worker Center aims to increase access to quality jobs; reduce employment discrimination; and improve industries that employ Black workers through action and unionization. The center seeks to promote economic and racial justice, peace, and prosperity for all of Los Angeles by developing policies and corporate practices that perpetuate equality in the labor market and end inferior jobs in the Black Community.
